Northern Districts

Woodlands, Sembawang, Yishun

Overview: Far north of the island these areas are pretty much untouched and are home to a number of reservoirs and golf clubs. There are a number of local and private estates for housing with local amenities nearby. These areas are very popular with American expats as they are close to the Singapore American School (SAS) in Woodlands. Driving to Orchard or CBD would probably take about 30-40 mins via the SLE or CTE Expressways or about 45 Mins-1 hour on the MRT. These areas also have easy access to the Woodlands checkpoint, which is the causeway across to Johor Bahru in Malaysia.

Types of residential property available: A handful of condominiums & apartments, many bungalows & houses.

Entertainment & leisure: The areas of Kranji and Lim Chu Kang are quiet rural countryside areas with a number of tranquil local farms to visit, and calm, breezy rustic retreats - all a world away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Singapore. The Sungei wetland reserve is a stunning area of secondary forest, mangrove swamps, ponds, board walks and streams, and it's a winter migratory spot for many species of birds and popular with bird watchers and nature lovers. Admiralty Park at Riverside Road is a large, beautiful green space, with rolling hills, mangrove trails, forest boardwalks and wonderful flora and fauna - pay tribute to the sad past at the Kranji War Cemetery and have a flutter at the races at the Singapore Turf Club. The area also has a couple of excellent local shopping malls & many local eateries. Heading back nearer to the central catchment is the Mandai Orchid Garden and the brilliant Singapore Zoo and the must-see Singapore Night Safari. You can also explore the lush rainforest and reservoirs around Mandai and Kranji and water sport junkies can get their fix at Seletaor reservoir.
